Non-Involvement Rate

What is your parish teen "Non-Involvement Rate"?

To help you out, here are the instructions again:

a.     Research your parish/cluster Non-involvement (NI) rate
                                               i.     List all teens (e.g. ages 13-17) who are registered in your parish
ii.     Highlight in yellow all teens who are enrolled in RE and Confirmation Preparation programs
iii.     Highlight in pink all teens who are enrolled in a Catholic School
iv.     Highlight in green all teens who are active in another parish ministry (other than the ones listed above).
                                             v.     Count the number of teens that are not highlighted at all. These are your “Non-Involved” teens
vi.     Diving the number of NI teens into your total number of teens. This is your NI rate.
vii.     Bring these lists and numbers with you to our next session.

Post an entry here about what you NI rate is and what you have learned from this process.

Here are some things to think about as you reflect on the "How to Guide for Building a Comprehensive Youth Ministry Program":

1. One of the things people focused on a lot from the first session was the need to "duplicate ourselves". This is precisely the first step (p. 4) of planning youth ministry. To what extent do you have a team in place in your parish/cluster? Are there others who take ownership of the ministry, or is it basically just you?

2. What are some of the main obstacles with forming a team of empowered adults to share the burden of ministry?

3. If the Ten Steps are so easy, why do you think that most parishes/clusters are not using them?

Session 1 Follow-up

Thanks for your attendance and participants yesterday.

Here are your questions for the week:
1.     What did you hear at session one that impacted you the most?
2.     How will this idea or piece of information change the way you do ministry?

Please post your responses in the "comments" section.

Welcome

Welcome to the Archdiocese of Dubuque CAFFE program!

Thank you for registering for the Comprehensive Adolescent Faith Formation Education (CAFFE) program.

CAFFE dates:
Monday, February 25
Monday, March 18
Monday, April 29
Monday, May 20

Meeting Times: 9:00am - 3:00pm

Location: Heartland Acres Agribition Center (2600 Swan Lake Blvd.), Independence, IA

ACRE testing
As a part of the program, we are strongly encouraging each parish/cluster to assess the teens of their programs with the Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (ACRE).  We are asking you to select a date between January 30 and March 13 for your participants to take the test. It takes up to six weeks to get the results, so we need all completed score sheets by our March 18 session. Once you select the date, we will ensure that you have the correct number of scoring sheets and booklets for each grade level.

In order to get the test materials to you as quickly as possible, we do need some information from you:
        1.      The number of 9th graders you would like to test (priority).
        2.      The number of 5th graders you would like to test (optional).
        3.      The number of 11th graders you would like to test (optional)
        4.      The date you would like to give the test.

Payment Due
We are asking parishes/clusters for a small portion of the total costs ($150 per parish/cluster). Once we complete the ACRE test orders we will send each of you an invoice for the amount you owe. There is no need to cover the $150 registration fee until you receive your invoice. Your invoice will reflect the $150 program fee plus the cost of the ACRE assessment ($2 per person).

Reading Assignments Prior to our first session in February, please read two documents. If you have a laptop or tablet, please bring electronic copies of these documents to our first session. Otherwise, please print them out to bring with you.

Session One Queries

This blog will be used to initiate conversation between members of your cohort group (CAFFE participants with similar sized parish).  We will use the blog to post discussion questions about our readings and the content of our sessions.  Each cohort has an individual site for discussion.

Please post at least once between sessions.  You may post as often as you like!  We will monitor the discussion to ensure everyone is participating.  We will also use content of discussion to help direct future sessions.

For this month's session, please respond to the following before February 25:
1)  What led you to sign up for the CAFFE program?
2)  What is your role in your parish's Faith Formation or Youth Ministry program?  How long have you been involved?
3)  What do you hope to gain from CAFFE?  What do you hope will be covered in our sessions?

Thank you!
